The author has awakened the reader's senses in such a manner that exemplifies great skills.I actually got chilled several times and reached for some hot chocolate. Just imagining the feelings the survivors had ...first while awaiting rescue. Then, their disappointment when rescue didn't arrive...And, finally a decision is made as to 'wait or leave'...Truly impressive.In addition to the survival aspect, there is also a mystery involved.Agent Victoria Heslin...what to say about her? Love having a strong female character in the lead of this one. A strong plot adds to the reader's interest. A well written novel which will keep the reader holding on to their seats for the duration.Most highly recommended.. I purchased this book based on a lot of glowing reviews, despite not really feeling this was my kind of book, and it wasn't. That said, I was really surprised that I enjoyed this book. I finished it in two days. I found characters to root for and a couple to not cheer for. The one thing I questioned was how over the top the character of Sergei was. He seemed a little unrealistic to me. The FBI investigation seemed to make sense. Yes there were times when I questioned the logic but hey - it's a book. Anyway, I rated this one five stars for surpassing my expectations. In fact, I think I will go back and read the first book in the series. If it's as good as this one, I might go to the second book. I will say that I seldom read a book based solely on good reviews, but in this case I did, and those glowing reviews were right on.
